Excellent Choice for Child Bike Seat, February 4, 2016

This review is from: Topeak Baby Seat II 26in Disc Rack Bicycle Baby Seat (Sports)
After much deliberation, I settled on the Topeak Babyseat II for my mountain bike after receiving the recommendation from a gentleman at our local Trek bike shop. My husband and I both have Trek mountain bikes, and finding a high-quality child seat that is compatible was no easy feat. Initially, I had my heart set on the Thule RideAlong, but soon realized that the seat post mount is not compatible with a bike that has cables running down the seat post. I knew that I wanted a baby seat rather than a trailer, due to often bike riding for coffee, groceries, etc. I wanted a seat that would hold my 4 year old for jaunts around town, paved bike trails, and some light off-roading. We have traveled many miles with this seat, and absolutely love it. Another must-have that I was searching for is the ability to easily remove the set from the bike and transfer it to my husband’s bike. This seat is perfect!

We bought the seat w/ the disc brake rack, and it was super easy to install. My husband has this mounted to his Trek X caliber. I have a 29’er, so we did have to purchase the disc break rack that is specifically for 29ers. This rack was also super easy to install. The seat is rock-solid, comfortable, and offers room to grow. Our child is 4 years old, 32 lbs and 39 inches. He fits this seat very well w/ plenty of room to grow. We can even adjust the feet holders downward as he grows. We have had zero issues with this seat interfering w/ our feet as we pedal. Another feature that we love about this seat is the suspension. We have taken our child off roading on a dirt/gravel trails and the seat performs very well. Removing the seat from the rack literally takes seconds and installing it can also be done in 10 seconds. We are extremely pleased with this seat!!

The foot holders are a bit narrow, but we solve this issue by dressing our child in his most narrow shoes (sneakers rather than boots). His feet are comfortable and stay secured with the straps. I have had no issues single-handedly installing the seat and putting my child in it with one hand, while my other hand supports the bike. You really cant go wrong with this seat!

Edited to say: The first pic shows how a 4 year old (who is the size of an average 3 year old) fits nicely in the seat. The second pic is an action shot. I have read some concerns with the seat being a little close to the rider. This has not been a problem for me. The second pic shows just how “cozy” we are, but I think this is good for keeping the seat near your center of gravity. No, I am not sitting on my little one ? I should add that I am 5’8 and 130 lbs, so the coziness aspect could be an issue w/ a bigger framed person.

I like it, I only had one problem mounting it, but that was more the way my bike is set up. Instructions were easy to follow and all the hardware was included and correct. The rack is great, well built and strong. The seat is easy to use, and fairly well built. Time will tell how the plastic will hold up, but so far it is doing great!
