Good bag for the money but…, July 11, 2016

I want to note I was not asked to write this review, nor offered any compensation for it. I searched for, bought, and tried this item, and decided to write a review to help fellow shoppers.

For the money I am quite satisfied so far with this bag. However, it seems the people who designed it may have never used a trunk bag or got caught in the rain while riding their bike. There are a few things that need to be changed to make it perfect. First of all the bottle holder at the back is totally worthless for a bottle. It is too short, and no where near wide or round enough, my bottles fell out quite easily. Putting a bottle in it also takes away from the inside storage space. So either make it larger or do away with it or put a flap or zipper on it so it can be used as a small storage pocket. Next, the straps on the front need to be placed a little differently and made longer. Using them to attach to the front rail of a rack didn't work as they were too short. I had to sew on extra Velcro. I want to note at this time I like the straps on the bottom. The way they attached was a selling point to me, the fact they use a loop to go through and pull tight as opposed to just slipping under and stick on.
I also like the outside pocket with the stretchy bungee. However, the bungee is cheap and is beginning to stretch out of shape/use already and the pocket has already ripped. I like the built in carry handles and the included shoulder strap, 2 good selling points. Also the reflective strip is very reflective. Another good selling point. The fold down bags on each side are roomy and store easily. You can even pop a few small things in the storage pockets when all folded up, so it's a little extra usage there. The bag also expands up when needed which is nice. I have used this is a steady rain, not a torrential downpour, and my items did stay dry. I wasn't using the included rain cover at the time either. Now on the note, probably my biggest complaint about this bag is the included rain cover. While the cover itself is good and is attached by stretch bands so you don't lose it, which is nice, they way it is attached and how its stored is awful.
First of all, with something in a forward motion, the attachment straps should be at the front, not rear or sides, to lesson the amount of drag and keep the item from being blown off. Next, its stored UNDER the bag. If you get stuck in a sudden downpour, who wants to wrestle with taking the bag off to get the cover out? The storage pocket should be on the very front of the bag in a nice little zippered area, unzip, pull out, done. Also the cover actually takes up some inside storage space by creating a lump on the inside of the bag as well as creating an uneven packing surface. I also suggest a stretchy band with a clip be attached to the bag, one that can go under the rack and clip on the other side to help hold it in place. I made and attached my own.
Again, this is a good bag for the money, but a few design flaws needed to be tended to in order to make it the best bag on the internet.

I ordered this bag about 2 months ago for frequent commuting to and from work. Here is what I have noticed so far:

    Pros:
-Spacious. With the drop down panniers, this bag can hold an impressive amount. When I first received it I thought it looked rather small, but once all compartments are loaded up (you can also expand the middle section upwards to fit more items), it is really all the space I need! I can carry: lunch (composed of small to medium tupperwares in the middle section), clothes (1 pannier), and work shoes/ makeup bag (1 pannier.)
-Inexpensive. I looked a LOT of different bags during my search and this one was definitely the most bang for your buck.
-Can be discreet. Panniers fold into the side pockets if you don’t need the space, and then it looks like a pretty small bag.
-Comes with rain cover. (Haven’t used it yet)
-Fairly easy to attach (just uses velcro straps, although it can be hard to get your fingers under the rack to attach)

    Cons
-Zippers feel cheap. I feel like I have to be extra careful with the zippers so I don’t rip anything
-Doesn’t hold its shape super well so it can sometimes sit lopsided (it has never fallen off though)

This bag is definitely a good purchase if you are just looking for an inexpensive bag to hold clothes/ small items for commuting. I wouldn’t personally use this bag for a serious biking trip or in inclement weather as I’m not sure how well it would hold up, but for the price it’s a great bag for a beginner commuter!
