I bought the 4″ version so I could trim the excess and fill the entire length of the strap in front of the ear.
It works as advertised, the noise reduction is noticeable and the build quality is good.
However, I’m not so thrilled with the dorky look you get by wearing these and in hot summer days it kind of holds all the sweat from your face and it’s a bit disgusting.
I’m not using it for shorter rides, only for longer/faster speed rides where the wind noise is a bigger issue.

These things WORK!, September 19, 2016

This review is from: Cat-Ears ‘Elite II’ – Cycling Wind Noise Reducer
Bottom line up front…these WORK! I am a casual rider riding anywhere from 60-100 miles a week. I live in SW Oklahoma, which is known for it’s constant south wind at about 10-15 mph. So wind noise is an issue to me. I’ve ridden sometimes and been passed from the rear by cars that I literally did not hear until they were right up on me. I’ve ridden with my kids and even though they were four feet from me I’ve had to ask them to either yell or repeat loudly what they were trying to tell me. With these the noise is reduced by well over 75% of what I normally would hear without them. So if you ask do these things really work, then my answer is yes. Having said that, they aren’t the most aesthetically pleasing things to wear on the side of your helmet, but let’s face it…we ride for physical fitness, family together time, or just for the love of riding. Whatever your reason you should buy these for the SAFETY aspect if no other. I’m not into what people think about me when I ride my bike. Cool doesn’t factor into a middle aged, happily married father and grandfather. Anything you can do to give you an edge on the road safety wise?…take it. Follow the instructions that come with the ears and you will see a noticeable decrease in wind noise. Very noticeable. You’ll read other reviews that will say “looks like I have Elvis sideburns” or “looks like caterpillars attached to my face”…whatever. This is a safety item in my mind. If you’re trying to be cool, then get some expensive kit and ride slowly around someplace where everyone will think you’re trying to be cool. If you’re trying to be more safe while you ride?…buy these. They made a believer out of me.

The idea behind these is great. But the execution…not so much. I purchased the black Cat-Ears and got nothing but lots of laughs out of them. When worn, they look like black hairy sideburns…even from a distance. It’s very awkward. The amount of noise reduction is minimal. I still had lots of wind resistance on my earbuds.
