Best biking shoe I’ve ever worn!, March 26, 2016

After gluing the soles back on for the second time on my 6 year old Specialized biking shoes it was time to find a replacement. After checking all the reviews I was quite interested in these but due to recommendations to buy one size larger I still wasn’t ready to take a chance. And after cruising around the local bike shops and finding no Pearl Izumi’s of any style I figured I’d stick with a vendor with free returns if needed. Since I have wide feet and my Specialized shoes were one size larger than my street shoes, I decided to gamble on two sizes larger. It worked out just right… a little extra space for the toes, SLIGHTLY wide but with the medium thickness socks I wear they worked out just right!
I just got back from a 20 mile ride over varied terrain, from flat sandy washes to steep rocky climbs and everything in between (as in Arizona deserts) and my feet felt awesome. At about 12-15 miles wearing my Specialized shoes I would begin to lose feeling from the ball to my toes and by 20 miles I could feel them. But not with these! My feet feel as fresh as when I started.
I should also mention these are very comfortable walking as well. I had to do a reasonable amount of hike-a-bike on this ride and they felt no different than my regular hiking boots, with good traction on sooth rock surfaces. I didn’t walk far on solid pavement but they felt fine. (Not that I’d wear them for anything other than biking… I want them to last at least as long as my Specialized ones did.
It’s rare to find shoes I can put on and use immediately with no issues at all. If I wasn’t on such a tight budget I’d buy another pair for the future.

It’s an odd situation. These are great shoes but they appear to be 1 to 2 sizes too small as it relates to past Izumi shoes that I have purchased on Amazon. Its a shame…. I want these shoes but so far I have ordered them in my size (too small), ordered a full size larger (still too small). I am afraid that if I order them again, that I will be disappointed. What to do????.
