i would say this is the best deal out there! if your just starting to use clipped in pedals then this is the best choice i would say you should make! i have looked at JUST shoes and they run about $90-150. the shoe size runs a little big so get one size smaller than your usual shoe size. the shoe isnt the most comfortable to walk with but its good for just biking. if your planing on going to places that you would need to carry your bike and hike these arent the best shoes! but in total they are a great deal!

    Updated after long bike ride:

I like the fact that the kit includes everything needed to get your going: Pedals, shoes, and cleats. I have installed the pedals on my Hybrid bike, and tested with the shoes/cleats, and all work fine. After a long ride, everything worked very well. One cleat became a bit loose, but of course, that is easy to tighten. I find it is a little difficult to easy “clip-in.” I guess this will take time to get used to.

Note that the black/silver “spikes” are optionally installed near the front of each shoe. The purpose of the spikes is if you go hiking off-trail, and need more traction. That is, they have nothing to do with riding the bike. Most cyclists will probably leave those off. Leave the little black grommets in the little holes. Some other thoughts:

    Pros:

♦ Shoes fit well. I usually wear 10 1/2 biking shoes, and I ordered men’s 44. Perfect fit. (Box says it fits 9 1/2, so they indeed run large)
♦ Pedal installation was easy (see video)
♦ Cleat installation not terrible difficult, but made more complicated by the poor instructions.

    Cons:

♦ The little black grommets used to cover the spike holes at the front are not terrible secure in covering up the unused screw holes. I had to glue one in place.
♦ The shoes have a bit of a cheap feel to them, especially if you compare them to higher priced shoes. Not quite as bad as “bowling rental shoe” quality, but on the flimsy side.
♦ The brief instruction sheet is not good. For one thing, the graphics are not very clear. The illustration showing the cleat installation is barely readable.
♦ Secondly, there are no notes at all on the purpose of the off-bike “spikes.”
♦ Thirdly, the instructions about installing the cleats into the shoe are not correct. The instructions state you have to peel back part of the shoe to install the cleat set. That must be from a different (perhaps older) model.

CAUTION: USING CLIPLESS PEDALS FOR THE FIRST TIME CAN EASILY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. Once you have everything installed, be careful and cautious when first riding with the new setup. Practice clipping in and clipping out–perhaps while you are leaning your book against a wall. Suggest adjusting the cleat springs so that they will easily release at first, until you get used to them.

All in all a really good set, and I am very pleased with this product. The product fared well after a long test ride. This set is very convenient for first-time clipless pedal users. Plus, a really great value. One can overlook the poor instructions. Recommend!
