Best seat on the market, June 22, 2015

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This is the only seat I will ever recommend! By far the best one on the market. It reclines far enough for your baby to nap, has built in shocks, and is suitable for small babies through small children. My son started riding in this seat at 6 months old and he has always measured in the 10th percentile. I can not say enough great things about this seat. I have this installed on my beach cruiser. Worth the price and will fit on almost any bike. It locks on so you don’t need to worry about theft. easily comes off with one button, can go from bike to bike with no install as long as you purchase an extra mount, fits on low saddle with adapter (i purchased separately) only seat out there with that option. Reclines at the touch of a button and the harness adjusts with one touch.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)

Since I am so enthusiastic about this product, I need to provide a disclaimer from the outset. Although I participate in the Vine program and received this product free in exchange for a review, this does NOT mean I’m biased. I generally request items I want and like, so many of my reviews are positive, but I am always honest and say so if I think a product is junk. Every once in a while a product comes along that is so amazingly nice I can’t contain myself. This Thule bike seat is one of them. Before receiving it, I had been using the WeeRide LTD Kangaroo Child Bike Seat, which I like and will still use occasionally, but the overall quality of the Thule blows it out of the water (perhaps the price reflects the differences). My thoughts are below on several different aspects of the product.

    CONSTRUCTION:

The first thing that strikes me about the Thule is the amazing quality of workmanship and design. I am familiar with Thule and have used their bike and kayak racks, and they are awesome. The bike seat is no different. It is constructed of super heavy duty molded plastic that feels unbreakable. The straps appear strong but they are also light and flexible and thus comfortable on the child. The miscellaneous plastic pieces appear well made and strong, too. I expect this product will last for years.

    DESIGN:

The design is amazing. It basically consists of three major parts. The first is the bike attachment, which hooks to the seatpost. It’s a really heavy chunk of metal and plastic that holds the weight of the seat to the bike. The second are the metal bars, which are plenty strong for what’s needed: they can apparently hold up to nearly 50 pounds. The third is the seat itself. The ingenious part of the design is that you can put bike attachments on other bikes and simply switch out the seat between one and the other — great if mommy and daddy both use the seat. The foot rests have a huge range of adjustment, able to go way up for short legs, or way down for long legs. This helps stability and comfort, and is a huge advantage over competitors owing to the size range it can safely handle. The straps are easy to adjust, too. The buckles are super heavy duty while also being very easy to use. It has nice, strong, easy-to-grip handles on the sides for the little one to grab. Finally, this Thule seat has an advantage over the WeeRide in that it does NOT interfere with peddling. The WeeRide sits on the front bar and gets in the way of my knees. I also have to lower my seat until my feet can touch because there’s no room over the top bar to stand if I need to stop or use my feet to balance. With the seat in the back, like the Thule, I can stand over the front bar, peddle without interference, and keep my seat at the proper height, which saves energy when peddling. Everything about the seat is well thought out and seems to come straight from the drawing board of the expert engineering we have come to expect from Thule.

    ERGONOMICS:

The seat is quite large while also being comfortable on smaller children. The backrest is very high compared to most childseats, and this will help give head support, especially on rough trails or with taller passengers. Again, as I said, the foot rests are great. The front of the seat, the part that sits between the child’s legs, is raised slightly to help hold them in. Perhaps the best feature of all is something I didn’t think about until I got it. The metal rods that hold the seat to the bike have a bit of flex to them and actually act as shock absorbers for the child. The only complaint about the entire product that I can think to mention is that the seat pad is a little thin and could get uncomfortable after a while. Fortunately, you can buy extra padding from Thule’s offering of accessories. I haven’t tried this yet but the option exists. Finally, the seat allows huge amounts of adjustment in all directions — up, down, back, forward, tilt, and so on. The adjustment was enough that I can use this seat successfully on my full suspension mountain bike. And for those wondering, by the way, the extra weight added so far back, where it exerts so much leverage, was NOT too much for my rear shocks. I simply added a little air to my shocks and put it in lock-out mode, and it holds the extra weight like a champ.

    INSTALLATION:

Installation was fairly easy (once you find the English section in the book). First you attach the heavy chunk of metal/plastic bracket to the bike. Then you connect the steel rods to the seat. Then you slide the steel rods into the bracket and VOILA, ready to go. I found it very easy to attach — and even easier to remove for times when I want to ride the bike without it. Well thought out and well…

    Perfect!, May 24, 2014
    By

We just got this today from REI (Memorial Day sale) and are in love! Super easy to put together. I have it on my Specialized Ruby road bike. The mounting bracket is wide, about 5″ but not thick. It basically wraps around the bar. I was worried about it coming too close to the tire but it was a non issue. I even still have both of my water bottle holders in place. The straps and seat itself are easily adjusted. This carrier adjusts forward, back, reclines, and raises. It can be put into darn near any position I can think of that you would want it for. You can buy another base/attachment part separately for your spouse’s bike for easily transferring back and forth. I also enjoy the double sided padding. I changed it over from the grey to the pretty fuchsia color for our daughter. Overall I highly recommend this product. The only bummer is that the attachment piece is too big to attach to my mountain bike due to it having full suspension. The dimensions of the black and blue attachment piece are 5.0″ from top to bottom, 5.5″ from side to side, and about 1.5″ thick although the majority of this going in the front, not near the tire.
