Best gloves I have found (and I’m not a mountain biker!), January 12, 2016
    By
Southern Mississippi (Laurel, MS USA) –
    (VINE VOICE)

For the first time, I have bike gloves to love.

I’m not a mountain biker. I’m an overweight grandma who likes bicycles. I ride because I like it, not to beat the clock, win a race, or achieve spectacular rides. To me, a wonderful ride is when I have enjoyed it and managed to get back home (or to the car or campsite) without wearing out or falling. I love bike trails that are paved and I can take our young granddaughter on to ride her bike. I’m almost never in a hurry on a bike, because if I’m in a hurry to get somewhere, I wouldn’t BE on the bike.

To me, the bicycle is to enjoy the journey, not achieve a destination.

I’d tried other bicycle gloves. They just weren’t comfortable. Somewhere, there was always an uncomfortable edge to irritate tender, uncalloused skin. (You know the places–like between the fingers or at the base of your palm where the hand joins the wrist.) Some would actually “pick” or grab at dry, calloused skin. That was no fun either. At my age, I would guess that my callouses are “perma-callouses” and I seriously doubt that I won’t have them anytime soon. It’s probably from years of my hands being exposed to chemicals and solvents before it was required to have those info sheets to inform workers of the hazards.

These are far different than other gloves I had tried. First of all, the seams are all well sewn. No rough edges or areas where stitching has bunched up together to create a “hard” spot to irritate skin. I am a woman with square hands that are slightly larger than the average woman’s hands, so I had ordered the medium. They fit perfect, slightly on the loose side, so even if it’s a “bad day” and my hands are swollen a bit, they will fit. The only area that is very loose is the wrist, but the hook and loop tab pulls that in perfectly. Then, on the palm, there is what looks nearly like tire tread, but it has a lot more give than any tire. It’s like extra cushioning to help minimize the jolts one gets on the handlebars as you navigate Southern streets and roads (potholes galore!) I’m sure that mountain bikers encounter far more jolting on trails than I will on streets and trails. That cushioning might even help reduce the numbness problem I endure that has interfered with my cycling so much. (Neck & shoulder injury leaves me with an arm that goes numb quickly and requires some adaptive work to my bike to minimize the stress.) Regardless of whether it accomplishes that, the gloves will enable me to grip the handlebars better, as well as protecting my hands in the event of a fall (it happens, even though nobody ever wants to admit it) or heaven forbid, an accident. I have had my hands seriously damaged in an accident that involved a dog coming after me, so I take my own safety seriously! (And carry dog mace, since nobody in Mississippi seems to understand that restraining your dog is a good idea.) In addition to my “regular” bike, I do have one with a motor, and of course increased speed can mean an increase in the potential for an accident. (It goes up to 20 mph instead of my usual 5-8 mph.)

The gloves are great. They keep your hands warm in winter, protect you from the sun in summer, and increase your grip ability year round. They feel GOOD. They are also the ONLY piece of bicycling “clothing” that I am willing to wear. Face it, cycling clothes are not designed for plus size grandmas with plenty of bumps and bulges that nobody under 30 would ever dream of coping with!

I highly recommend these gloves. I couldn’t find anything wrong with them, and that has never been true of a pair I have tried before. It doesn’t matter if you don’t do mountain biking–they are just great for any kind of cycling.

I did purchase these gloves with a promotional discount in exchange for my honest review. All of my reviews are always my own honest personal opinion, and it does not matter if the item was free, discounted, or purchased at full price.

    TR Haz (AZ, USA) –

I have owned a lot of biking gloves, at least 10 pairs, these are among the favorite I have used so far (although I do traditionally use full fingered gloves more often, but many people prefer the fingerless glove to keep the fingers available for fine motor use). I do mostly mountain biking on trails, both minimally challenging as well as more advanced.

I did not use the sizing chart provided, but instead just ordered the same size of other gloves I have bought locally and found that for me the size (medium) was exactly what I expected. These fit snugly without feeling restrictive. They breath well and my hands do not feel hot when using them.

The padding on these is probably the thickest of all the gloves I have used so far, which is nice. However I do not feel that the padding is intrusive or obstructive.

The loops on the middle and ring fingers help a great deal when trying to remove your gloves from damp sweaty hands.

I would definitely recommend these gloves.

I received this product at a discount for my honest and unbiased review.

    Thanks!

Like the padding placement, February 6, 2016
    By

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
Gloves were okay. Like the padding placement, but padding feels fairly soft / squishy (more like a foam than a gel). The sizing was right, however the velcro to strap the glove ended up with the glove pulling fairly tight at an angle across the back of my hang. Maybe it’s just a weird cut in the fabric pattern, or maybe my hands are goofy compared to others (I did have to order the XL glove size).

We’ll see how these hold up to the additional rides, but not sure if I’d buy these again over something else (I have a medium pair in a different brand a fellow rider gave me whose gel padding I like better, but for now these fit and are good enough)
