Good, Bad and Indifferent, March 11, 2015

The Good – The bag seemed to be well made of quality materials. Interesting access “port” for earbuds, although wearing these types of devices while riding seems highly counterintuitive. My iPhone 6 with minimalist clear silicone bumper case fit snugly and securely into the space provided. Plent of room in the bag for a tube, inflater, wallet, power bars, etc. Touch screen worked OK. Lovely blue color. Did not have problem with my knees hitting the bag.

The Bad – The attachment to the top tube of my bike left MUCH to desired. No matter how I rigged it, the bag wold not stay in place and required freuqent repositioning. But the dealbreaker for me was the clear plastic phone cover that generated so much glare as to make the phone screen totally unreadable. If not for the glare, I might have tried to reengineer the mounting system, but as it was it was game over.

The Indifferent – Maybe it’s just personal prefferance, but zipper closure with the “hinge” side towardthe rider made accessing the contents of the bag, including the phone, much more challenging than it needed to be. Managing the zipper(s) up around the top edge of the bag next to the handlebar stem was a pain.

So thanks to Amazon’s return policy, back it went.

This review is about the Panlong® Roswheel 2014 New Updated Cycling Bicycle Bike Front Tube Top Tube Smartphone Bag Frame Pannier Phone Holder for iPhone Samsung HTC Nokia Sony LG and other Smartphones 5.5 Large Top Tube Carrier. You should know they have some work to do and that while they do a great job with fit & finish, and overall quality of construction – their design work is lacking. The first issue is that it is a bit “floppy” on the bike – a unit like this should be well secured to the bike frame. The second issue is ergonomics – the first time you face a steep hill, your knees will hit the bottom edge of this bag. If its a long hill, well… its going to drive you more than a little crazy. Full disclosure I am 5’10” riding a 56cm bike. Obviously your experience may be different. If the design tapered narrow at the rear base area, they could have made a better product. Overall I am still using it because it does a great job of holding my iPhone and keeps it nice and dry riding in the rainy Seattle area. Thought you should know before you buy. Safe & Happy Riding to You ! ! !
