Jenson USA Topeak “Bicycle Handlebar Bag”
The Topeak CagePack is my latest bicycle storage pod for transporting some daily commuting items on my bike.
Last winter I discussed 10 ways to carry things on a bicycle (video link below). In that video I featured the SKS Cagebox water bottle storage container. The Cagebox is made of plastic and things tend to rattle and make noise if the box is not full, which is annoying.
The CagePack (sometimes called CagePak) is a much better designed product. It opens all the way with a zipper and has multiple organizational compartments inside.
+ zipper secures to pack via velcro so it does not make noise
+ detachable internal organizer with net
+ recessed back that secures the pack to the water bottle cage
I use the CagePack with my Planet Bike aluminum water bottle cage. The water bottle cage holds the pack very securely because I can bend it to form a tighter fit, which I also do to hold my water bottles firmly.
The CagePack is smaller than the CageBox and not waterproof (it is water resistant). You can fit a spare tube, some allen keys, tire lever, and other stuff in it. The capacity is equivalent to a small saddlebag.
I don’t need to carry all the small stuff in my pockets anymore while bike commuting, and it only takes 1 second to install and remove from the bike!
What do I put in my CagePack?
1. Phone wrapped in a shower cap
3. ID card/s
4. Glasses – clear glasses for night
As with all water bottle storage containers you will lose one water bottle spot on your bike if you use it. If you can get refills somewhere it isn’t that bad though.
