In summer of 2011, I embarked on a bike tour, something I have never done. There is a race that starts around June 10 every year from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico. A friend of mine, Adam, and I started June 7th, three days before the race. I ended up finishing with several racers.

    Generally speaking, any bicycle route that is accompanied by an adventure cycling map is a route worth taking, both for its scenic quality and relative safety. I’ve certainly done longer and more rugged tours in the past but was still quite surprised at how much I really enjoyed this tour, especially for someone from Oregon. The tour itself is fairly easy, and to be honest if you lost or damaged your map you could quite easily follow the many signs for the Oregon scenic bike route or ask one of the many cyclists along the way. These maps are always useful however because they provide necessary information such as the location of all camp grounds along the route and their phone numbers, where you might find hiker biker sites, an elevation profile of the entire course, and other useful services along the way such as bike shops, grocery stores and a few scenic routes not listed in the Oregon scenic bike route brochure.
