The Electric Bike Book

There is an electric bike revolution taking place around the world, yet most Americans are unaware of it. Indeed, most Americans couldn’t answer the question, “What is an electric bike?” But get ready to discover how these amazing machines can improve your life and quite literally change the world.
In The Electric Bike Book, author Jim Turner gives us an informative and entertaining look at the rapidly expanding world of electric bicycles. Forget the do-it-yourself garage projects with clunky motors mounted on heavy cruiser bikes. The reality is that hi-tech, modern electric bicycles have come of age in Western Europe and America, where quality manufacturers and some of the world’s best engineers are introducing amazing new technologies and design. The results are innovative and highly efficient electric bicycles that provide safe alternative transportation in such a fun, healthy and environmentally responsible manner as to make urban au

Here’s how to make a deck of cards that will pump out a shocking 330 volts of electricity. Stuart Edge used it in his “Electric Shock Kissing Prank” to show the ladies how a man can really put the sparks in a kiss.

Project Inspired By:

Multiple videos on making an improvised “taser” with a disposable camera circuit. I learned about making the circuit into a “continuous current” by removing the capacitor from potatogun96 tic tac taser video: and I learned about the possibility of removing the components from the circuit board and making the circuit smaller from Kipkay’s electric stapler prank:

This electric shocker outputs around 330 volts DC, and delivers a surprising jolt. Be familiar with dangers associated with electric shocks, minor burns, damage to tissues, and possibility of cardiac arrest. This project should not be attempted without adult supervision and adequate training. Misuse, or careless use, of tools or projects may result in serious injury. Use of this video content is at your own risk.

Project History & More Info:

I’ve been playing with these shocker circuits from disposable cameras for over 3 years and get them all for free from local drug stores. Just check the photo center’s recycling bin.

I’ve had plans to build a device that could be used for pranking people in the streets, and when I was introduced to Stuart Edge, we got together to see if he’d be interested in using a gadget like this for a prank. He loved the idea, but wanted it to fit inside a deck of cards.

After thinking about how to reduce the circuit to fit in a normal deck, and after making a couple of prototypes, Stuart had a working electric deck and was trying it around campus.

He said that at night you could actually see the sparks of electricity jumping across the lips of the people kissing.

This was a really fun project, and one of my favorites because somehow, shocking people never gets old.

Jim’s book book is quite interesting, I am not totally sure who its intended audience is. I bought it thinking it would help me pick a new electric bike, but it really didn’t do that. If you are actually thinking about buying an electric bike and want some easy to understand, unbiased advice, best to check out Average Joe Cyclist Guide: How to Buy the RIGHT Electric Bike.

Jim’s book did a lot of other things: taught me about the history of electric bikes, taught me frankly more than I needed to know about the business of electric bikes today, and included interviews with people in whom I have no interest. I did find the life story of the author interesting and inspiring. But the bottom line is that the author has his own electric bike company selling very expensive electric bikes. (The most expensive I have ever heard of.) So obviously what advice he does give about buying electric bikes is completely biased. I am sure his bikes are quite excellent (they better be, for that price!), but what I wanted was a book that would tell me all about electric bikes and help me choose one for myself. All of the good electric bikes are pretty expensive (from around $2,000), so I did not want to buy one without advice, and Googling it just confused me more. My recommendation to other readers: if you want to learn about the history and future of electric bikes for a term paper or something, buy this book.

In Jim’s book you will find the how and why for all of your questions regarding the electric bikes. I learned quite a bit and hope to have one of his bikes in the future. If you could change your way to get to work and benefit with the needed savings in money and your health is going to improve. I am sure you will say I should have done this a long time ago. Read the book and then change your life for the good. Von
