Why is there no compatibility list on Amazon? DOESN’T FIT ALL CARS, June 6, 2015

An unusable product in my situation.
There is a compatibility chart on the BACK OF THE BOX, but for whatever reason, not on Amazon.
My car is specifically listed as NOT A FIT, but it’s not listed on Amazon.
The unit itself feels very robust, the straps that it come with are able to be extended to crazy long dimensions.

The item itself feels fine, and seems decent. Just need that list on Amazon for future people.

This product does not work as advertised. After many scratches and dents to my car, attempting to get my bike mounted to this rack, I went back and checked the literature and marketing material.

Even though Allen Sports advertises that this product can be used on either hatchbacks or sedans, my finding is that the mounting bars are too short to work on sedans–the pedals of my bike gouged and scraped the trunk of my car because the mounting bars didn’t extend far enough to hold the bike clear of the car.

Allen Sports also indicates that it can be used for any kind of bike–but if you look at their photos and videos, they only show men’s mountain bikes. I was concerned about this but decided to trust and ordered it anyway, unfortunately. In fact Allen actually produced video of a woman riding a woman’s hybrid bike and starting to install the bike on the rack, but at the end of the video they pull a switcheroo and in the end it is a men’s bike seen on the rack. Unfortunately the mounting arms aren’t adjustable enough to accommodate other kinds of bikes which have angled cross posts.

And finally, the folding feature of the rack works by a series of pins that retract in order for the pieces to collapse. But I couldn’t get one of the pins to pop out even when the mounting arm was fully extended. I tried prying it out with a pen and other objects but it wouldn’t budge As a result on of the mounting arms wouldn’t not lock into place. Even if my bike and my car had been compatible with this product, I wasn’t sure that I would be confident that it was held secure for my weekend trip.

All in all, not a product that works for a wide audience. If you are in the stereo-typical demographic (male, mountain bike rider, SUV driver) then this may work okay.
