Review Allen Sports Trunk Mount bike rack 2-bicycles
Allen Sports Ultra Compact Folding 1Bike Trunk Mount Rack
Great cheap rack,
Let me just preface this by saying that I love bikes and all things bike related. I have owned at least five or six bike racks. This is the best rack you can buy under 80 bucks. Maybe even under 150. I love it and I have owned all things Thule and saris. This is perfect for carrying my road or mountain bike on the back of my car or my wife’s car in a pinch. I use my Thule platform rack for longer trips, but for just going out on the mountain or road early in the morning, quality is perfect. Super tight fit on the car and has minimal contact with the bicycle and the paint of the car. Folds into something about the size off shoebox and stows in the trunk in seconds. I would not buy the two bike one because the bikes would surely bang into each other. Great product though. Just use a bungee cord to keep the bike from banging into the rack when in use. Make sure to secure wheels with the extra strap length. LOVE this rack! Don’t worry about expensive bicycles either. They will be fine. My bikes are two grand a piece and I trust this rack.

poor dead bug in the shot :-(
I bought the Allen MT2 at WalMart, and when I put the rack on my vehicle, I didn't feel comfortable with it for some reason. When I applied weight in a downward motion when the bicycle was mounted on the rack, the bolt holding the whole thing together broke, so I replaced all four crappy pressed-on cheap bolts they put on with four solid, screwed-on quality threaded bolts with lock nuts.Check out the quality of the crappy bolts they put on the rack, they are bolts that are pressed on by a machine to save the Allen company money, but it looks like they are pressed on by a machine in, which is their weak point and I think if one of these crappy cheap bolts fails when you have your bike on there, especially on the freeway doing 70 miles an hour, think of the damage it could cause to your bicycle, or someone else's vehicle behind you.I believe in companies saving money, but not when it involves safety to others as well as your own personal property. By the way, this occurred today and the solid bolts I put in will be tested tomorrow.
I just attached this to my subaru outback. doesnt wiggle or wobble at all. I have yet to put my bike on it, just yet. but so far so good with just the rack down the highway. thanks for the review though!
Mountain bikes are notoriously difficult to fit on 'hanger' style bike racks.
Hitch bike racks tend to better suited for mountain bikes.
Wrapping mounts in electrical tape was a great tip. Those scratching my car was my biggest concern
Bought it on 07/19/2015 at Walmart for 34.95. So far – so good. It's much more solid then I thought it would feel.
This company sucks duck balls
I use a velcro strap on the brake leaver to keep the wheels from spinning also some large bore pipe foam lagging over the near pedal and wheel that might touch the car .
That was helpful. Thanks Jim.
I bought a used Allen Sports 102 DB at Goodwill. It was missing the lower tie down strap; but I did not know it. Being my first bike rake, I was stumped about what went where; and your video cleared that up pronto. I was able to rig a tie-down based on the video. It made my $10 purchase a bargain for sure.
Kudos on your video. I am weary of sloppy home video that is wordy, unclear, and shot from odd angles, etc. Your production quality is first class. Thank you.
can I use it for Subaru Impreza 2007?
I had a problem with this particular model. The single strap that attaches via clip to the part of the trunk lid closest to the rear window snapped — frayed and broke. The place where it broke was kind of "elastic" and I believe weaker than the rest. Lucky for me it broke just as I was pulling out of my driveway but the whole bike and rest of rack hit the ground. This part of the product is unsafe IMO should be a recall. I was able to find a substitute strap to replace the worn out original.
did you hear about the Trek recall?
