Shimano 2014 Men's Club Recreation Road Cycling Shoes - SH-R088L (Black - 44)
@ Shimano’s SH-R088 challenged our notions of what entry-level cycling shoes could be. The SH-R088 offers expert-level performance at a price point that is perfect for club and recreational riders. When it comes to high-performance road shoes, we’ve all been told that stiffer is better. While this may be true for certain application, an overly rigid shoe reduces circulation and can leave your foot numb. Here’s where the beauty of Shimano’s Dynalast technology (driven by pro-rider feedback) comes into play, providing stiffness and flexibility where you need it most. The SH-R088 features a fiberglass polyamide outsole that is constructed to deliver power to the pedal, while still allowing a calculated level of flex due to varying densities across the sole. This promotes a smoother, more energy-efficient upstroke and will keep you feeling stronger for longer. The SH-R088 upper uses stretch-resistant, synthetic leather that is more durable and lightweight than traditional leather. More impor

Great shoe for a big foot, May 29, 2013

I have always had issues buying shoes. I am a US 14 and need a wide toe box. My toes spread a lot when I step so often shoes cut into my big toe(s). ALL my local bike shops don’t even come close to selling my size. I usually don’t have any luck with online shoe shopping, but I took a chance and ordered these Shimano SH-R088LE Wide Fit Road Shoe. I am very pleased! fit right out of the box (size 50 EE). It took a bit to adjust the cleats for my Shimano 105 PD-5700 SPD SL Pedalpedals. Once I adjusted the cleats right, I was off and riding! The ventilation is great and I still have room to wiggle my toes! I am so glad I took the chance. Plus it’s Shimano so you know you have quality equipment!

This review is from: Shimano SH-R088 Road Shoes (Shoes)
I was happy to find a cycling shoe that came in wide. I wear a size 11 wide, most my shoes are New Balance because they sell wide shoes that are comfy to me. I ordered these in size 46, and they fit my feet perfect. Very comfortably, just make sure you don’t walk in them, as least not for any extended distance, if you have to walk more than 50 feet on asphalt, I would suggest taking them off to avoid damaging the shoe, as well as foot comfort. They work so nicely on my bike (Trek 2100ZR) with the SPD-R540 pedals, these are my first cycling shoes, and I am so happy, I immediately noticed a change in my cycling performance. *** I only fell once while practicing clipping and uncliping in my kitchen =) , didnt get hurt, just layed in the kitchen floor nd laughed my ass off at how stupid I probably looked. ***

Five star fit, five star performance! I wear a 9.5 New Balance training shoe and 9.5 Brooks running shoe. The size 44 (9.7) was a perfect fit for me. Quite often shoes feel too narrow by the toes for me, but these felt just fine. I like the Velcro closure and the ratcheting type closure near the ankle.

I installed the SPD-SL cleats on these right away and tried them on my new pedals. I practiced clipping in a few times and hit the road. What a huge difference these, and the whole system, make when riding!

Even though these shoes have vents on the bottom, my feet didn’t feel cold riding at 45°. If I go out in the winter, I may cover them with tape, or use a shoe cover.
